CUMBERLAND COUNTY COLLEGE: PAINTING

Painting I - Final Project

CCC Final Project Header

PAINTING I STUDENTS
READ THIS NOW

As early as possible, you should choose an artist for your final project painting and research paper, then obtain library books about your artist. The college library selection is limited. Therefore, the librarian may have to order your books from another library. This process can take many weeks. Do not wait to begin your research until it is so late that the necessary book(s) cannot be obtained on time.

A brief explanation of the project is given at right. A full description will be provided in class at mid-semester.

List of
Artists and Books

On the Artists page is a listing of artists acceptable for the final project. Select one and then see the appropriate bibliography page for books about your artist. If you wish to use an artist not listed, approval must be obtained from the instructor.

There are three bibliography pages of artists for Painting I students: artists whose last names begin with A-F,
G-O, or P-Z.

Other book titles and information can be found by referring to an on-line book seller such as Amazon, or to the web site of a college library. Some regional art school libraries are PAFA, UArts, and Pratt Institute.

The paper will expain why you chose the artist, give your opinion of the artist's work, tell what it is you attempted to imitate, the methods you used to achieve this, and what influence (if any) the artist has had upon your own painting. Information about the artist will also be appear. Included must be a brief biography. The biography may be an overview, or may focus upon some important event or period in the artist's life that had a profound effect upon the artist that influenced the artist's work.

At least 3 sources must be cited in a bibliography, and the paper must be properly footnoted. Papers lacking footnotes and a bibliography will be rejected.
