CCC Painting I Header

GENERAL INFORMATION

This and other "CCC Painting I" pages are for the benefit of my Painting I students at Cumberland County College. They provide information about the, studio guidelines, materials, assignments and projects and may be accessed through the sub-menu above.

SPECIAL NOTICE TO PAINTING I STUDENTS

The final project requires that you begin your research early. Select Final Project from the sub-menu immediately and visit the page so that you can anticipate what needs to be done.

Pregnant Women
& Nursing Mothers:
HEALTH NOTICE

Exposure to some materials used in oil painting courses may be dangerous to you, your child, and your fetus. Do NOT enroll. If you are already enrolled, see your advisor about changing or dropping the course. If you become pregnant during the semester, see the instructor as soon as you know.

Watercolor students need not be concerned.

General Studio GUIDELINES

Food is not permitted in the studio.

All cell phones and beepers must be silenced; no exceptions.

At the end of a class session, students are to return easels and tables to their original positions and are responsible for cleaning up after themselves.

Oil Painting STUDIO GUIDELINES
In addition to the above:

The use of turpentine is prohibited. Only odorless paint thinner may be used.

Do not pour paint thinner or painting medium into the sink drain.

Fixative may not be used in the studio; all spraying must be done outdoors.

MATERIALS

Supplies are available from the college book store and from the sources listed on the Material Advice page. If you are paying for supplies yourself, rather than with a voucher, I recommend ordering from one of the discounters cited on the Material Advice page; you will get better quality at the same or lower cost.

GRADES

Grades are based on personal performance.

All students begin with a grade of 'C.'

Points are added to your grade when you show progress and participate actively in class. A student who makes a good effort to put into practice the concepts taught, can expect a grade of at least 'B.' An individual who makes better than average progress and who makes an extra effort to do outstanding work can earn an 'A.'

Points are subtracted if you habitually miss classes or are late, fail to turn in all the assignments, show little or no progress, or have a poor attitude.

Those who think they are exceptionally "talented"
cannot anticipate an automatic 'A.' As with any student, you are expected to do the work, participate, and demonstrate progress. In other words, you must work at it to earn a good grade.

ATTENDANCE

Poor attendance results in poor grades.

Miss three classes and your grade is reduced one level. Miss four, see your grade go down two steps. Absent five times and it's three levels down. Six absences = F.

Keep in mind that being late or departing from class early twice is the same as an absence.

MEETING With THE INSTRUCTOR

For a private meeting, make an appointment during class, by telephone, or use the Contact/Subscribe page on this site.
