GENERAL INFORMATION

Research and present a written report on the art period or style assigned to you in class.



THE ESSAY

• Prepare an overview of the assigned style or period in a 750-1000 word essay that explains what is distinctive of the style/period, how it evolved, and why it came about.
• A list of artists/artworks of your assigned style or period will be provided in class. Choose three artists or artworks and provide an analysis of each and how he/it is representative of the style/period.
• Include an image of an artwork by each artist (they may all be together on a single page).
• Keep in mind that the careers of many artists span several artistic periods or styles. Be certain that you focus on the assigned period or style.
• Cite sources for quoted information and, at the end of your paper, provide a bibliography of sources. Both printed and internet sources are acceptable for this project.
• Plagiarism is not tolerated, it’s that simple. Papers with plagiarized material receive a zero.

RESEARCH

• Begin with the course textbook, which may contain some of the information you seek.
• To find information on the Internet, select “images” from your search engine’s menu (Google, Yahoo, etc) and enter the artist’s name or the artwork’s title. Click on a resulting image, and then on the option to go to the sponsoring web site. Many of these sites provide background information.
